How much is a Gorilla Permit in Uganda?

Gorilla Permits in Uganda are divided into two categories depending on how much time the traveler would like to spend with these huge creatures. In case you want to spend much time with the Gorillas, study their behaviors and research more about them, it is better you book for a Gorilla Habituation Permit instead of Trekking permit.

The Gorilla Habituation Permit is more expensive compared to the Trekking Permit since it gives a better experience. Gorilla Habituation in Uganda only takes place in Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and it costs US$1500 per person for foreign non-residents, US$1000 for foreign residents and UGX 750,000 per person for East African Citizens.

A Gorilla Trekking Permit in Uganda costs US$700 per person for foreign non-residents, US$600 per person for foreign residents and UGX 250,000 per person for East African Residents.

What is a Gorilla Permit?

It is very crucial to know what a gorilla permit is before you even know how to book one. There are two types of Gorilla permits issued in Uganda. First is the Gorilla trekking permit which allows tourists to trek and track the endangered Mountain Gorillas. With a Gorilla trekking permit, one is allowed to strictly spend one hour with a certain Gorilla family.

Second is the Gorilla Habituation Permit which gives the tourist a chance to join the Gorilla specialists, rangers and researchers in the Gorilla habituation process. A process that familiarizes the endangered mountain Gorillas with human interaction. Although both processes are rewarding, the Gorilla Habituation gives a better experience as the tourist can spend more time with these huge breathtaking giants.
